Scribes

Two scribes: scribe Putyata, unknown scribe

The major part of the manuscript was written by the scribe Putyata. It was supposed that he was a secular scribe [Karsky, 303 (see 1); Rozov, 154] or the head of the armed force of Prince Vladimir from Kiev [Makary, 440] or in Vladimir's time [Kupryanov, 40-41], or the head of the armed force of Prince Svyatopolk (end of XI - begin. of XII cent.) [Makary, 440].

Seven extracts from 1 or 2 lines to 2 pages were written in the second handwriting.

Footnotes

Footnote 1. "Sinful Putyata about 1100, the scribe of the May Service Menaion (former Novgorod Sofia Menaion, now State Public Library)" [Karsky 303], where "sinful" can be understood as secular and not monastic, i.e., secular scribe.
